She checks out Drone Cadets' work inspiring students to get involved in the drone industry. Jillian visits HART High School in Queens for the STEM in the South program, shadowing Tony Reid and Mike Johnson. Sgt. Tony Reid is Co-Founder of Drone Cadets, which integrates drone programs into schools. Reid's work as a corrections officer with incarcerated teens for eight years at Rikers Island in New York City led him down this path. He wanted to help students envision a bright future ahead with the drone industry as the north star. There are two parts to the twice-weekly after school drone certification program. The first--classroom instruction where Mike Johnson with Drone Lecture helps students prepare for the FAA's Part 107 drone license test. The second--interactive activities like building and flying drones and learning how to solder. Jillian also spoke with HART High School leadership, Principal Kayode Ayetiwa and Assistant Principal Anna Raghubir, about the importance of the program for students as they prepare for college and the workforce. Ayetiwa and Raghubir said they're excited to implement a drone course directly into the curriculum for seniors this fall. Students will study to attain their Part 107 license in the first part of the program, and focus on taking their knowledge to the workforce in the second.
